Our Commitment to Sustainability
Environment
Crescent Foundry has been at the forefront of protecting the environment from pollution. We are proud to be the first foundry to achieve ISO 14001:2004 certification. Our dedication to environmental responsibility is evident in our comprehensive energy efficiency practices, which reduce overall energy consumption. Monthly measurements monitor energy usage, and continuous efforts optimize energy utilization in the production process. Additionally, we are committed to controlling and progressively reducing gaseous emissions to minimize our environmental impact.
Sand
Crescent Foundry uses Green Sand for molding, meaning the sand is bonded with water and no chemicals are used. Impressively, 98% of the sand is recycled. The sand is cleaned through various stages of magnetic separation: larger particles are removed using a magnetic drum on a conveyor belt, and finer particles are separated by magnetic gravity separation. We also recycle cast iron and steel scrap in our furnaces. Boring and fines generated during the casting and machining processes are briquetted in-house and re-melted.
Iron Fines
To prevent iron fines from contaminating soil through landfill contractors, Crescent Foundry has installed a briquetting machine. This machine compacts the iron fines into small cylindrical pieces, which are then charged into the cupola for re-melting. This process ensures that iron fines do not enter the soil, reinforcing our commitment to environmental protection.
Social
In the social aspect of sustainability, Crescent upholds its core values of respect, integrity, teamwork, delivering on commitments, and continuous improvement. These values are ingrained in all employees, from onboarding processes to regular training sessions.
Regular training is conducted to refresh employees on safety protocols, and standard operating procedures are made accessible on the plant floor. We also foster the Great Place to Work environment, emphasising safe, friendly working conditions that instil a sense of pride among employees and associates.
Governance
Crescent maintains a strong commitment to governance by ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. The company invests in solutions to monitor changes, reporting, and compliance processes effectively.
We have also established a formal risk management process to identify and manage key risks within the organisation's risk appetite. Internal audits are conducted independently to report on issues and risks, and an effective whistle-blower policy is in place to encourage stakeholders to report any ethical concerns.
